Motion lights: plan placement first

Match the light to the route you want to illuminate.

Choose a specific job

Decide whether the light is for finding a cupboard item, walking along a corridor or reaching a drawer. These tasks need different coverage. A small motion light is not a substitute for required safety or emergency lighting. Test the proposed location using a temporary light before attaching anything.

Read the sensor details

Check the stated sensing range, detection angle and any ambient-light settings for the model you are considering. A sensor hidden behind a door or pointed away from the approach may be inconvenient. Think about pets and movement nearby, which can trigger some sensors. Product specifications vary, so do not infer behavior from a photograph.

Plan charging and installation

Battery-operated lights need a practical charging or battery-replacement routine. Check the instructions for mounting surfaces, moisture exposure and use locations. Keep small batteries out of reach of children and follow disposal guidance. Test brightness at night: a useful cupboard light may be too bright facing a bed.

Before you buy

Measure the space, write down the problem you want to solve, and test a simple layout with what you already own. Check the exact product’s dimensions, instructions and suitability before making a purchase.
