Drawer dividers: what to measure first
A better fit starts with the inside dimensions, not the product photograph.

Check the usable space
Measure the drawer inside, with the drawer fully open. Note the narrowest point and the height beneath any frame above it. Account for screws and curved edges. Adjustable dividers need a suitable contact surface; a fixed tray needs enough room to lift it out for cleaning.
Sort before choosing a layout
Lay your utensils on a towel and group them by use. Long tools need long compartments, while measuring spoons can share a smaller space. Remove duplicates you do not use. Test compartment sizes with folded cardboard strips. If a layout requires stacking items deeply, it may make everyday access harder.
Choose for maintenance
Consider how spills and crumbs will be cleaned. A removable tray may be easier to wash, while separate dividers can accommodate unusual utensils. Check the stated care instructions instead of assuming that a material is dishwasher safe. Leave a little spare space for future changes and test one drawer before outfitting every drawer.
Before you buy
Measure the space, write down the problem you want to solve, and test a simple layout with what you already own. Check the exact product’s dimensions, instructions and suitability before making a purchase.
